As a mission-oriented crisis discipline the goals of Conservation Biology is to investigate and describe the existing biological diversity, to identify and understand the effects of human activities on biological diversity, and to develop practical interdisciplinary approaches to restoring and conserving biological diversity and natural ecosystems.


The course offers an introduction to ecotourism – a rapidly growing sub-sector of one of the world’s largest industries. It examines the application of ecological principles to tourism; the tourism industry’s relationship with natural environment and culture; and its impacts and benefits on the environment and societies, particularly in protected areas. The course further identifies and discusses ecotourism practices, services, and products. The course will include a field trip to an ecotourism destination.


The course offers an introduction to cultural, natural, and cross-cutting heritages; global and regional extent and distribution of UNESCO world heritage sites; ASEAN heritage sites; heritage functions and values; heritage threats; heritage loss and degradation; wise use of heritages; heritage restoration; law and regulation; world heritage conservation, UNESCO world heritage mission; and conservation and management issues. The course will include a field trip to one or more heritage destinations in Thailand, including heritage interpretation centers.
