This course provides a broad overview of Thai history from the origins of the Thai people in pre-historic times to the late twentieth century, with a strong focus on the Bangkok era. Rather than just presenting the conventional historical narrative that focuses solely on Thai kings and capitals, it seeks to give an alternative view that includes the different regions and various ethnic groups that make up present-day Thailand. The course also introduces students to the key issues in Thai history and some of the classics of Thai historiography.
